Brigadier General Thomas J. Jackson to Mary Anna Morrison Jackson, August 10, 1861

August 10th.

. . . Prince Napoleon passed here on the evening of the 8th, en route from Washington to Manassas. He spent the night with General Johnston, took a view of the battle-field yesterday morning, and then returned to Washington, passing here about eleven o'clock A.m. I only saw him at a distance.
